Commitment & Costs

The primary commitment is required from the students: to commit to pursue a strong weekly regimen of group preparatory meetings and individual study/practice/building time; all working towards the Invitationals and beyond. This commitment will include the twice weekly meetings, and often weekend work.

In addition, you must maintain your grades.

ELIGIBILITY: As the Science Olympiad team is academically based, all students must maintain grades with no D’s, or F‘s and a quarterly GPA of 2.5 or above.

Any student who does not meet the weekly academic eligibility requirement for 2 consecutive weeks will be denied participation until they are able to maintain academic grades for 2 consecutive weeks.

A student who does not meet the quarterly GPA requirement will sit out all competitions until interims, at which time they may return to full participation if the GPA is a 2.5 or above.

The second commitment is required from the parents: to be involved in your student’s studying; to open time in your family’s schedule for study and/or lab/building practice; and to volunteer to help with the entire team needs, as much as possible.

Costs: Please email our school liaison to get current costs.

*Every year, we put on Science Mania – a community based fundraiser, to decrease our team expenses. The money raised at this fundraiser is used to reduce the cost of bus transportation and hotel rooms for each of the overnight trips. Based on this fundraising success, the above noted costs may decrease.

Optional costs include food/snacks at each Invitational. Each school sells a variety of foods to keep the kids going throughout the day! Standard fare is pizza, pop, cookies, candy, etc.

** The Club has received sponsorship funding to pay all club costs for several students. If you have financial needs that could prevent your student from participating in Science Olympiad – see Cheryl to learn about the scholarship options.**
